URS will lead a team with CH2M Hill Constructors that has been awarded a $2.2 billion contract for the remaining environmental cleanup at the East Tennessee Technology Park at the Department of Energy's Oak Ridge Reservation.

The contract includes an initial five-year term with a four-year option. About 60 percent of the total contract is expected to be subcontracted, with half of that going to small businesses.

The new contract covers completing cleanup of the technology park, while performing ongoing work such as facility surveillance and maintenance and various waste management operations at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the Y-12 National Security complex.

The technology park began operations during World War II as part of the Manhattan Project. It produced enriched uranium originally for atomic weapons and then for the commercial nuclear power industry. It was shut down in 1987.
