* 1983 -- Thanks to Pam Board's sizzling final leg, the Kennewick girls defeated Mead in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4 minutes, 5.33 seconds, and the Lions pulled past Rainier Beach to claim the Pasco Invitational team title. The Lions had 60 points to the Vikings' 54. Board also won the 300 low hurdles and finished third in the 100 low hurdles and fourth in the long jump. On the boys side, Richland was the Mid-Columbia's top team finisher, tying with Shadle Park for third place with 62 points. Franklin took the title with 68 points, and Mead was second with 65.
* 1983 -- Richland tennis players Randy Worden and Lisa Ulrich were the only Tri-City champions at the Tri-City Invite. Worden beat Kamiakin's Jeff Northam 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 in No. 2 boys singles, and Ulrich routed Mimi Dega of Boise 6-4, 6-2 in No. 1 girls singles.
* 1971 -- Ed Ash recorded the first no-hitter in Isaac Stevens Junior High School history to lead his team to a 2-0 shutout of winless Garrison in Walla Walla. Ash was credited with 15 strikeouts.
