Blu is a Blue Macaw. They're the largest bird in the parrot family.

He lives in Minnesota and is the last male of his species. Blu is sent to Rio de Janerio in Brazil to breed with the species' last female.

Jewel is a wild bird, hates captivity and wants to escape.

He kind of likes contact with humans and the comfort of the cage. When they get kidnapped and are going to be sold instead of bred, they escape. That's when things get complicated.

Jewel can fly. Blu can't.

Rio is an animated flick that can be seen in two-dimensions or three. Do the three. You will appreciate the multiple dimensions and the breathtaking colors and some of the flight scenes. It is also rated G, which means it is as kid-friendly as possible.

Maybe too kid friendly.

Rio is written by Don Rhymer who penned the duds Surf's Up and Deck the Halls and is directed by Carlos Saldanha. He did the so-so Ice Age movies. Rio has no teeth. No edge.

The plot is simple. It's not fun or funny, and outside of being about animals and animated, it has nothing to offer kids or adults.

Like its main character, the movie just doesn't fly.
