45 lacrosse teams to compete at Columbia Park

Published: April 14, 2011

KENNEWICK -- It's called the Three Rivers Shootout, but to prospective fans it serves as Lacrosse 101.

This weekend, there will be plenty of chances to learn about one of the fastest growing sports in the nation.

The Three Rivers club will play host to its fifth annual tournament Saturday and Sunday at Columbia Park.

Some 800 players on 45 teams will keep five fields hopping in constant action. Saturday's first match is at 10 a.m., the last at 7 p.m.

Sunday's action runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Each game will be shortened so they can be played within an hour.

"It's going to be nonstop action," tournament director Rob Hart said. "It's a great weekend to see it."

Teams are expected from as far away as Missoula, and from all around the Northwest. There will be brackets for high school varsity and JV boys, seventh-eighth grade, fifth-sixth grade and girls.

Admission is free. There will be several vendors.
