* 1984 -- Native Host, the Oklahoma-bred son of Raise Caine, overcame relative obscurity to win the $52,000 Fun Sun Quarter Horse Futurity at Sun Downs race track in Kennewick. Native Host, ridden by jockey Rae Schubert, edged out another longshot -- Red Eye Special -- to pay out $14.90 for a win ticket, $5.80 to place and $8.20 to show.

* 1970 -- Richland's Jim Qualheim won the 120-yard high hurdles (15.4 seconds), the long jump (21-11 1/2) and triple jump (school record 43-4 1/2), but Walla Walla still ended the Bombers' three-year string of 26 consecutive dual-meet victories with a 74-71 win in a track meet at the Bomber Bowl. The key point swing came in the final event -- the two mile run -- when Juan Hernandez of the Blue Devils outkicked Richland's Kevin Kohler to edge him for second place.
