Feed store's 'Chick Day' scheduled for Saturday

By the Herald staff March 25, 2011

There will be lots of peeping, quacking and cackling at Basin Feed & Supply in Kennewick from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday as the store puts on its annual Chick Day.

This is the time of year when Basin Feed & Supply and other feed stores in the Mid-Columbia get their baby chicks, ducks, geese and turkeys for sale.

Basin will offer free hot dogs and soft drinks and a petting zoo run by the Rada Rabbits 4-H group. "We've been doing this for years," said Josh Sidwell, manager of the Kennewick store.

"Our store in Moses Lake has been doing this for 30 years and we've been here since 2000 and been doing it every year. It's fun for everyone."

And what would a Chick Day be without a mascot? For Basin Feed & Supply, it's Charlie the Chicken.

The store is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 9200 W. Clearwater Ave.
