* 1979 -- The Richland boys basketball team advanced to the Class AAA semifinals with a 70-60 win over fourth-ranked Foss, which featured 7-foot center Ron Burns. But the Bombers held Burns to 18 points -- six points below his scoring average -- with help from a 2-3 zone defense. Richland's Bob Kennedy led all scorers with 22 points, while Mark Hoke and Brian Kellerman combined for 35 points.

* 1969 -- The Pasco boys basketball team narrowly missed out on its first trip to the AAA state semifinals in 22 seasons with a 55-52 loss to University in the Region IV tournament final. The Bulldogs trailed 41-33 early in the fourth quarter before Ron Howard directed a Pasco comeback that produced a 46-43 lead with three minutes remaining. But University went on a short run that gave the Titans the lead for good. Howard led all scorers with 25 points.
