* 1987 -- The Hanford girls rolled past West Valley 60-36 for the Mid-Valley League district championship in Grandview. The Falcons used an 11-0 run to beat the Rams. Tori Baker scored 17 points and Kristi Reichert added 11 for the Falcons, who outrebounded the Rams 39-23.
* 1985 -- Sunnyside's skyscrapers, 6-foot-8 center Gary Johnson and 6-6 forward Bob Groeneweg, combined for 35 points and 18 rebounds as the Grizzlies advanced to regionals with a 63-52 victory over Pullman before a packed house in Grandview.
* 1964 -- It was announced on this date that Mike Hoke, a 6-foot-3 ninth-grader at Kennewick's Highlands Junior High School, had 111 points over seven games for a 15.9 average to capture the Yakima Valley Southern Division Basketball League scoring championship for the 1963-64 season. Hoke, the only player to hit double figures in every game, guided the Scotties (4-3) to a third-place finish, along with teammate Larry Lindman, who was sixth in scoring with an 11.6 average and 81 points.
