Fred and Kay Brauer of Richland celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a family dinner.
They met at the University Lutheran Chapel in Berkeley, Calif. and were married Jan. 27, 1951.
In June after Fred graduated from the University of California, they moved to the Tri-Cities during a severe housing shortage. They rented a furnished basement apartment at the now Moore Mansion in Pasco.
They went to work for General Electric in 1951. Kay worked as a secretary-stenographer until 1953. Fred was a nuclear research scientist at Hanford for General Electric and Battelle. Fred retired in 1994.
They are members of the Richland Lutheran Church and Richland Seniors Assoc. Fred is a member of the American Chemical Society, Kiwanis Club of Richland and a docent at CREHST museum.
They have three children, Gail Konopik, Richland; Gina (Brad) Begalka, Richland; and Greg Brauer of Rainier. They have three grandchildren.
