Marilyn and Fred Shoemaker

Marilyn and Fred Shoemaker of Richland celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Feb. 5 with a surprise party attended by family and friends at the Riverton Retirement Center in Richland. They have been residents of the Tri-Cities for six years.

They were married Feb. 4, 1961, at the University Presbyterian Church in Seattle.

Marilyn worked as a registered nurse in the hospital emergency room in Seattle before she took time to raise their three children. She returned to work at Interlake Nursing Home in Bellevue where retiring in 1986.

She was a member of the Newport Presbyterian Church in Bellevue for 28 years serving on their women's ministry. She is currently a member of Meadow Springs Presbyterian Church in Richland.

Fred served in World War II and held various jobs in a variety of states before starting his career as an electrical engineer at Boeing. He retired in 1986 after 28 years of service.

He is a member of the Masonic Lodge and a member of the Meadow Springs Presbyterian Church in Richland.

Their children are the late Daniel Shoemaker; Linda (Kevin) Farmer of Kennewick; and Cheryl (Jerry) Stephens of Richland. They have four grandchildren.
