It looks like a piece of the Twin Towers steel superstructure will be coming to Kennewick.

The city has received word that its request for a piece of debris from the Sept. 11, 2001, tragedy has been approved for use in a memorial 9/11 to be established in Kennewick.

Mark Yaden, Kennewick fire marshal, said Fire Chief Neil Hines signed an agreement with the Port Authority of New York for the donation, which Lampson International crane company will help in bringing to the Tri-Cities.

"We don't know how big it is or when it will arrive," Yaden said Monday.

Hines applied for a piece of the Twin Towers about a year ago when the port announced it would make some of the twisted metal available to cities interested in creating their own 9/11 memorials.
