A pair of playoff doubleheaders are on tap at Tri-Cities stadiums Saturday as the field for the Gridiron Classic continues to be pared down.
Kamiakin and Chiawana will play host to 1 p.m. games at their home stadiums: The No. 5 Braves (11-0) will take on No. 7 Mount Spokane (10-1) in a 3A quarterfinal at Lampson in Kennewick, while No. 5 Chiawana (10-0) will face the third-ranked Ferris Saxons (11-0) in a 4A tilt at Edgar Brown in Pasco.
Kamiakin is back in the quarterfinals for the first time since 2003, when the Braves reached the semifinals before losing to Kennedy 28-13.
Chiawana, a second-year school, is in the midst of its first state playoff run. However, head coach Steve Graff guided Pasco to state eight times and won three championships in his 12 years with the Bulldogs.
The nightcap at Lampson has fifth-ranked Prosser (10-1) taking on East Valley of Spokane (6-5) at 4 p.m. in a 2A contest.
Meanwhile, the 2Bs will take over Edgar Brown at 5 p.m., with Southeast rivals Waitsburg-Prescott (11-0) and DeSales (8-2) squaring off in a battle of No. 3 vs. No. 4.
Defending 1A state champion Connell (10-1) will play Chelan (10-1) at 1 p.m. Saturday at Moses Lake's Lions Field.
Also Saturday, Lind-Ritzville (8-2) and Colfax (10-0) are slated for a 5 p.m. kickoff at Spokane's Gonzaga Prep in the 2B bracket.
