7 injured in 2-vehicle wreck near Othello

OTHELLO -- Seven people were injured in a two-car crash on Highway 26 about a mile west of Othello on Friday.

The collision happened when Francisco O. Villafana, 36, of Royal City, was driving westbound around 10:58 a.m. and slowed down for a vehicle turning left on the highway. He reportedly was rear-ended by Arlena L. Gutierrez.

Villafana's 1994 Pontiac and the 2004 Ford pickup driven by Gutierrez, 27, of Royal City, were totaled.

The drivers, as well as Gutierrez's passengers Consirncio Martinez, 52, Jose Barreto-Gutierrez, 5, and Miley A. Barreto, 1; and Villafana's passengers Juana Villafana, 33, and Kimberly G. Villafana, 3, all of Royal City, were treated at Othello Community Hospital.

The Washington State Patrol listed the cause of the accident as inattention.
