YAKIMA -- People with jobs that cater to tourism are invited to take the Spring Fling bus tour Sept. 17.
Buses leave at 7:45 a.m. from the Visitor Information Center, 101 N. Fair Ave. in Yakima, and return to the information center at 5:30 p.m.
Stops along the tour include Benton City, Prosser, Grandview, Sunnyside, Granger, Zillah, Toppenish, the Yakama Nation Cultural Center and Wapato.
The tour is meant to help hotel desk clerks, restaurant staff and other service-oriented employees become better acquainted with the Mid-Columbia so they can be more helpful to visitors to the area.

YAKIMA -- Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences went from renter to owner of its student center last week when John Cadwell and his wife, Priscilla, officially donated the Cadwell Student Center.
PNWU's College of Osteopathic Medicine in Terrace Heights trains medical students to be primary care physicians, aiming to provide more family doctors to communities in Eastern Washington.
The Cadwells, who founded and run Cadwell Laboratories in Kennewick, have been major supporters of the school since they first toured it with their daughter, Marie Cadwell Meyer, in 2008. She will be a member of the first graduating class in May.

Each winery offers its own celebratory events, including grape stomps, harvest and crush activities, tours, free-run juice, hors d'oeuvres, live music and of course, wine tasting.

Dyme Def, a Seattle hip-hop group, headlines the "Posse Off Broadway" tour that stops at The Seasons Performance Hall in Yakima at 8 p.m. Feb. 11.
The tour, a nod to Sir Mix-a-Lot's track Posse on Broadway , also includes J. Pinder, Eighty4 Fly, Royce the Choice and GMK. But Dyme Def, a trio featuring rappers Fearce Villain, S.E.V. and Brainstorm, is the highlight.

Victor Rufus Schmeck, 50, of Kennewick, died Jan. 14 in Richland.
He was born in Yakima and lived in the Tri-Cities for 35 years.
He was a retired auto mechanic.
