An event featuring food, wine, music and auctions aims to raise money for The Children's Reading Foundation of the Mid-Columbia.
Books & Vines is from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Sept. 9 at Bookwalter Winery, 894 Tulip Lane in Richland.
It will feature a family-style meal prepared by Chef Frank Magaña with Picazo 7Seventeen in Prosser, wines donated by Bookwalter Winery and the music of Bluestone.
Due to the support of Bechtel National and additional sponsorships by Sun Pacific Energy and Bookwalter Winery, all of the event's proceeds will support children's reading programs in the community.
Tickets cost $100 and are available by contacting Brian Ace at 509-222-7323.
The event also will feature a silent and live auction with a variety of items available for bid. Silent auction items feature a diverse range of products and services. Thge live auction includes packages such as a Caribbean yacht cruise, wine and hors d'oeuvres events from Analare and Airfield Estates, and outdoor experiences including Hells Canyon boat tours, white water rafting and a guided hunt and stay at Eagle Lakes Lodge. The photography of John Clement also will be featured at the event.
The mission of The Children's Reading Foundation of the Mid-Columbia is to ensure that every child is read with at least 20 minutes a day from birth and provide resources, information, and training so that children grow up in a literacy rich environment. The foundation administers the READY! For Kindergarten, Team Read, and Our Babies Can't Wait parent workshops in Benton and Franklin counties.

More than 300 guests attended the annual Books and Vines dinner and auction at Bookwalter Winery in Richland, said Brian Ace, executive director of the foundation.
Bechtel National sponsored the event, which means all proceeds raised went to the nonprofit.

The event features a fashion show featuring clothing from Maurices and a dog obedience demonstration. There also will be food on hand as well as wine and beer and a silent auction.
Visitors are encouraged to bring their pooches as long as they are well behaved.

The Children's Reading Foundation of the Mid-Columbia will celebrate its 15 years of encouraging children to read by staging its "Books and Vines" dinner and auction tonight at Bookwalter Winery in Richland.
Festivities begin at 5:30 p.m.
The Mid-Columbia formed the first chapter in the nation on Sept. 15, 1996. The group's purpose is to remind parents to devote 20 minutes each day to reading with kids.

Tickets for the 33rd Tri-Cities Wine Festival, among the oldest wine events in the Pacific Northwest, are now available.
All events will be Nov. 4-5 at the Three Rivers Convention Center in Kennewick. The Tri-Cities Wine Society stages the festival, which is capped by the Saturday night public tasting of the wines judged in the competition. Results from the professional judging of Northwest wines are announced throughout the evening.
More than 100 wineries and 400 wines are expected to enter in the competition, and most will be poured for the public. It is Washington state's longest-running wine competition. Tickets for the public tasting are $70.
