Herald staff

An event featuring food, wine, music and auctions aims to raise money for The Children's Reading Foundation of the Mid-Columbia.

Books & Vines is from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Sept. 9 at Bookwalter Winery, 894 Tulip Lane in Richland.

It will feature a family-style meal prepared by Chef Frank Magaña with Picazo 7Seventeen in Prosser, wines donated by Bookwalter Winery and the music of Bluestone.

Due to the support of Bechtel National and additional sponsorships by Sun Pacific Energy and Bookwalter Winery, all of the event's proceeds will support children's reading programs in the community.

Tickets cost $100 and are available by contacting Brian Ace at 509-222-7323.

The event also will feature a silent and live auction with a variety of items available for bid. Silent auction items feature a diverse range of products and services. Thge live auction includes packages such as a Caribbean yacht cruise, wine and hors d'oeuvres events from Analare and Airfield Estates, and outdoor experiences including Hells Canyon boat tours, white water rafting and a guided hunt and stay at Eagle Lakes Lodge. The photography of John Clement also will be featured at the event.

The mission of The Children's Reading Foundation of the Mid-Columbia is to ensure that every child is read with at least 20 minutes a day from birth and provide resources, information, and training so that children grow up in a literacy rich environment. The foundation administers the READY! For Kindergarten, Team Read, and Our Babies Can't Wait parent workshops in Benton and Franklin counties.
