Police recover stolen goods in Kennewick

By Paula Horton, Herald staff writer

A big screen TV, two couches, two coffee tables, mattresses and more were piled into a garage bay at the Kennewick police station, each marked with evidence tags.

The items are stolen goods that detectives recovered after searching a home on Quincy Place, Sgt. Ken Lattin said.

"It's easy money," Lattin said, as he estimated what the couches and tables could go for on Craigslist. "This stuff sells so easy."

The merchandise is linked to five storage unit burglaries in Kennewick in the past six months, Lattin said.

"So much (stolen) stuff we take reports on never gets recovered," he said. "But this shows we do, every once in a while."

A traffic stop Friday by a Benton County sheriff's deputy led to an ensuing investigation that linked Travis William Koehler, 34, and Phillip Lovejoy, 36, to the Kennewick burglaries, Lattin said.

The deputy who stopped Koehler and Lovejoy determined their 1991 Toyota truck and trailer was hauling stolen goods, Lattin said.

Investigators say the suspects were on their second trip from stealing metal and tools from Simplot Farms in Burbank.

Both were arrested on suspicion of possessing stolen property and Kennewick detectives were called when investigators determined Koehler and Lovejoy were involved in some Kennewick break-ins, Lattin said.

The burglaries happened as long ago as Feb. 3 and as recently as Aug. 23.

Detectives searched the home at 4611 S. Quincy Place where both men live and found the items, Lattin said.

Hydrocodone tablets and methamphetamine also were found, Lattin said.

Lovejoy was booked into the Benton County jail on suspicion of possessing stolen property and possessing a controlled substance.

Koehler was jailed on suspicion of possessing stolen property.

Both also face possible charges in Benton and Walla Walla counties.
