The Colorado Rockies announced Friday that they have extended their Player Development Contract with the Tri-City Dust Devils through the 2012 season, lengthening a partnership that began in 2001.
In a press release, both parties expressed confidence in the decision.
"We have been partners since 2001 and this player development relationship has produced plenty of big leaguers and we expect to produce many more," said Walter Sylvester of the Rockies' Player Development program.
Dust Devils general manager and vice president Derrel Ebert agreed that the relationship was a mutually rewarding enterprise.
"We have had great results on and off the field," he said. "And we look forward to continued success in the years ahead as a Rockies affiliate."

BOISE, Idaho -- When Christian Bergman takes the ball to begin Game 1 of tonight’s Northwest League Divisional Series matchup between the Tri-City Dust Devils and the Boise Hawks, he’ll draw on the experience he already has as a big-game pitcher.
As a senior at St. Francis High School in Altadena, Calif., he started the team’s CIF North championship game in 2006.
One season later, as a freshman at UC Irvine, he was pitching in the semifinals of the College World Series, a game that could have gone to one of the Anteaters’ more experienced pitchers.

PASCO -- Fresh off a record-setting season, the Tri-City Dust Devils added yet another feather in their caps Tuesday when Derrel Ebert, their general manager and vice president, was named the Northwest League's Executive of the Year.
Not bad for someone who had never before experienced a winning season.
"This award is a compliment to all those involved with Dust Devils baseball," Ebert said in a statement. "Our front office works extremely hard throughout the year, and we get great support from our fans, sponsors, the Colorado Rockies and the City of Pasco."

Once in a while, you get a nice little surprise that just makes your day.
Today it was Gary and Penny Featherston, parents of Dust Devils shortstop Taylor Featherston, who sent a couple boxes of cookies up to the press box. And these are some serious cookies!
They're designed by Posh Cookies out of Houston, Texas, and each one came wrapped up in cellophane with a nice little red bow. Open it up and it's a beautiful shortbread with white frosting and white icing trim around the edges. On top is written 'Thanks for an awesome season! Gary and Penny Featherston"
