Luau for King Lear is a corny comedy that will remedy any summer doldrums -- and it will show off Prosser's quaint Princess Theatre.
The show opens Aug. 6 and continues Aug. 7 and 13 with curtain time at 7:30 p.m. There also will be a 2 p.m. matinee Aug. 14. The theater is downtown at 1228 Meade Ave.
"This is one of those shows that no one has heard of but everyone will enjoy," said director Candace Andrews.
The play isn't really about King Lear and has fewer than 20 Shakespearean lines in it, she added.
"It's about a bunch of very different people who share a passion for entertaining and who think they have the talent to pull off a classic drama," she said. "The sight gags and punch lines are hilarious."
The cast has Becca Meyers as Blair Beesley, Kacie Askew as Tamara Logan, Andy Graff as Duncan O'Toole, Jim Milne as Sarge Abbott, Julie Meyers as Mrs. Blankton, Ashley Christoferson as Callie Hampton, Esmy Jiminez as Alex Rochester, Sandy Freepons as Theodora Van Horne, Rick James as Otis Hockwell, and Amy Milne as Elzbeth Beesley.
Opening night will feature a gala prior to the show with Hawaiian snacks and Prosser-based wines and microbrews.
Admission is $10 adults, $8 seniors and students. Tickets for the Aug. 6 opening night gala and the Aug. 14 pre-matinee luau lunch cost $25 each and include a ticket to the play.
Tickets are available at the Sixth Street Art Gallery in Prosser and Adventures Underground in Richland.
