National Dance Day, an event created by TV's So You Think You Can Dance, will be celebrated from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 31 at the Dance Connection, 2523 W. Kennewick Ave.
Festivities include free lessons in various types of dance and a car wash. Proceeds will be donated to a dance studio in Montana that was destroyed by a tornado in June.
Admission is free, but donations are welcome. For more information, call 628-9998.

The Mid-Columbia Ballet Society arranged for Nico Charisse to teach a two-day dance class in the Tri-Cities. Charisse has taught Ann Miller, Syd Charisse, Liza Minelli, Janye Mansfield and Mitzi Gaynor to dance. He also planned to go pheasant hunting near Othello during his visit.

Figure Skating Club to compete this weekend
The Tri-Cities Figure Skating Club will hold a Fun in the Sun competition today at the Toyota Arena in Kennewick.
Hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. There is no spectator fee.
About 150 skaters from the Northwest will compete in free skate, short program, jump, spin, complusory moves, short dance and free dance categories to earn points to become eligible for the National Solo Dance Championship, which will be held in September in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Hanford dance team to offer student workshop
The Hanford High School Dance Team is holding a dance workshop for elementary and middle school students from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Participants will learn a dance routine and perform it at the Hanford High boys varsity basketball game that night.
The cost is $20 per child and includes a T-shirt and snacks. Parents will have to purchase a ticket to the game. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m.
