Home alarm helps catch burglary suspect, police say
KENNEWICK -- A home alarm system helped Kennewick cops catch a burglar who had climbed through a bedroom window of a Kennewick home, police said.
Officers were called to the 3100 block of West Canyon Lakes Drive around 12:40 p.m. Monday after a home secured with an ADT alarm system was broken into, said Officer Shirrell Veitenheimer.
When officers arrived, they found a woman talking to a man, who later was identified as Horacio Estevan Mendoza-Alvarado, 22, of Prosser, in the home's driveway.
They learned the woman and her husband had gone to the house to check on the alarm for friends who were out of town and found Mendoza-Alvarado inside the house, Veitenheimer said.
Investigators determined he had entered the home through a bedroom window and was taking items from inside, she said.
Earlier Monday, a neighbor called police after spotting Mendoza-Alvarado walking in the area, but officers weren't able to find him then.
Mendoza-Alvarado was booked into the Benton County jail on suspicion of residential burglary and malicious mischief.
