KENNEWICK A semi-truck that started a three-vehicle chain-reaction crash ended up straddling a jersey barrier on Highway 395 in Kennewick, officials said.
The northbound lanes of Highway 395 at 19th Avenue in Kennewick were closed for about two hours while officials removed the semi and cleared the scene.
The crash occurred around 10 a.m. Tuesday when the vehicles were stopped on the highway for traffic control in a construction zone, the Washington State Patrol said.
The semi driver, Steven Hunter, 59, of Hermiston, rear-ended a 2008 Ford F-250 pickup that was stopped and pushed the Ford into a
2002 Chevy truck, troopers said.
Hunter then lost control of the semi-truck, hit the jersey barrier and became high-centered on top of it, troopers said.
Hunter, along with the other two truck drivers, Ross Aldrige, 39, of Vancouver, and Charles Kerkof, 26, of Pasco, were not hurt.
Troopers say the crash was caused by driver inattention and Hunter could be cited for following too close.
Traffic was detoured around the crash scene until both northbound lanes of the highway were re-opened around 11:50 a.m.
