Kennewick police have arrested a suspect in connection with a gang-related incident at Monopoly Park on Monday in which multiple shots were fired and a teenage boy in a nearby home was narrowly missed.
Police arrested Ayala Santiago, 23, of 610 Fir St., No. 2, Kennewick. He is being held in the Benton County jail pending potential charges.
Police said the shots were fired during a confrontation between opposing groups of gang members at the park at 825 S. Date St.
Witnesses said everyone fled after the gunfire, with no apparent injuries to any of the gang members.
Police said there were numerous citizens in the park and in nearby yards when the shots were fired, but none were hit.
However, a home at 824 S. Elm St. next to the park was hit by several bullets. One hit a computer screen that a 14-year-old boy was using. Another went into an upstairs closet and through all the clothing hanging in it.
Police said there is no evidence anyone at the home has gang ties.
Police located a suspect vehicle several hours after the incident on the 600 block of South Fir Street and arrested Santiago, who lives there. The vehicle, a van, is being held as the investigation continues.
