The Department of Energy and its regulators have scheduled public meetings in Seattle and Portland to discuss major changes to legal deadlines for environmental cleanup at the Hanford nuclear reservation.
Both meetings were scheduled at the request of Heart of America Northwest and Hanford Challenge, according to DOE. A meeting was not scheduled in the Tri-City area because there was no request for one.
However, the comment period on the changes has been extended through June 30. The proposed new Tri-Party Agreement deadlines would cover work to clean up central Hanford, including ground water and work to dispose of radioactive waste, including waste containing plutonium.
The Portland meeting is at 7 p.m. June 23 in the Student Union Building at Portland State University and the Seattle meeting is at 7 p.m. June 24 at University Heights Center, 5031 University Way N.E.
