Sun Downs opens final weekend

By the Herald staff May 1, 2010

KENNEWICK -- The final weekend of the season for Sun Downs is set for today and Sunday.

Today's eight-race card is highlighted with fans being able to wager on the Kentucky Derby, which is set to go off at 3:24 p.m.

In the Sun Downs card, the top race today will be the eighth Jim Smith Farms Ribbons and Lace Handicap at 6 furlongs. The purse is $3,200.

Nothing in Common, owned by Jim Craig and ridden by Connie Doll, is the oddsmaker's favorite at 2-to-1.

Entering today's card, Nikeela Black is the meet's top jockey so far with 18 wins, while Lynn Homer is the top trainer with nine victories.

First post is 1:30 p.m.

Trey Fecta

We start the final weekend with what's left of our ego and our bankroll -- $244 -- from the original $500.

In the first, Trey likes Irish Kiot for the first half of the Daily Double, and $5 across the board.

For the second, North Fork completes the DD, and box North Fork, Kash In My Wranglers and Peggy Again for a trifecta.

Hey Boo gets $5 across the board in the third.

For the Kentucky Derby, we're boxing a $2 trifecta on Line of David, Conveyance and Sidney's Candy.

An exacta box of Mysteriously Fast and Amen Brother Ben is the call for the fourth; try a $6 quinella on Slews Aneata and Skimmed.

We're betting $5 across the board on I Pods Go Bad in the sixth.

Take Mr. Liberty Bells for the first half of the Late Double in the seventh, then box a trifecta with it and I C a Charm and Billy Stark.

Pick Moments in May for the second half of the Late Double, and $5 across the board on it.
