Vodka Soda No Fruit runs to Sun Downs' Monahan Challenge

By the Herald staff April 25, 2010

KENNEWICK -- Vodka Soda No Fruit popped the winner's bubbly Saturday, bringing home first place in the $17,400 Dick Monahan American Quarter Horse Association Maiden Challenge finals Saturday at Sun Downs.

With Ben Chavis aboard, Vodka finished the 350-yard race in 17.91 seconds to garner the winner's share of the purse, $8,004. The favorite paid $5.20 to win, $3.40 to place and $2.80 to show.

Gator Hater finished second, 1 1/2 lengths back, followed by Hez Worthy.

Total handle for Saturday was $36,291.

Today's 10-race card features the $17,500 AQHA Pfizer Starter Allowance Challenge finals. First post is 1:30 p.m.

Trey Fecta

Trey's "Get Even Day" turned into "Take a Bath Saturday," as we took another hit in our fictitious wallet by going oh-fer the day.

The $63 loss -- three of our bets were scratched -- drops the $500 starting bankroll down to $265.

Figuring there's yet another weekend ahead, Trey will play it cautious today.

A look at the feature Pfizer challenge finals draws a bet of $5 across the board on Legal Runaway. Couple that with $6 to win on Mo Cash Billy Bob in the fifth, and that's all the betting ($21) Trey can stomach.
