The Dallas Brass are back in town and the last time the group was here in 1989, they had people dancing in the aisles. It's a good bet the house will rock once again when they perform at 7 p.m. March 18 in the Richland High auditorium.
The group sports a full complement of brass and percussion, and plays everything from classical to pop with splashes of Gershwin, Berlin, Sousa and Copland to keep things lively.
In the Tri-Cities, the group will play a selection of tunes they call, "American Musical Journey" -- a musical travelogue through American history.
The Brass, formed in 1983, includes Michael Levine on trombone, Brian Neal on trumpet, D.J. Barraclough and Charlie Porter on trumpet and alto horn, Dan Peck on tuba and Jeff Handel on drums and percussion.
They've performed with the Cincinnati Pops and conductor Erich Kunzel, the New York Pops and the Philadelphia Pops. They've been at Carnegie Hall, the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and had several performances with Bob Hope.
The quintet also will spend time working with the Richland School District's eighth- through 12th-graders.
Proceeds from the performance will benefit band programs in the district.

That's what trumpeter Lee Loughnane told the Herald about the band's brassy sound during a recent telephone interview.
Four of the group's original members still rock with Chicago, which formed in late 1960s -- Loughnane, keyboardist Robert Lamm, trombonist James Pankow and sax man Walter Parazaider.

And still the "Oooh" rang on.
Finally, the last, challenging syllable of Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas Is You came to a harmonious end. The treble choir let out a collective sigh of relief.
