Reading workshops for kids offered at libraries
Reading workshops for kids are planned at Tri-City public libraries during spring break.
The sessions, which include reading books, listening to guest speakers and doing crafts, are being put on by Regional Service Corps-AmeriCorps.
The theme of the "Go Wild for Reading" workshops is Earth Day, and activities will have an environmental focus.
Sessions are from 12:30 to 2 p.m. and 2:15 to 3:45 p.m. March 30, 31 and April 1 at the Pasco, Kennewick, West Richland and Keewaydin Park branches of the Mid-Columbia Library and at the Richland Public Library.
The workshops are geared toward kids in kindergarten through fifth grade, though all grades are welcome. Children may attend as many sessions as they want.

I grew up in the Richland School District and have a degree and license to teach first- through eighth-grade. have participated in my children's classrooms weekly since preschool. I've been "in school" most of my life.
Am I then an expert on school funding? No.
But when I opened my pink levy pamphlet, I was interested. After reading it, I'm invested. This is about my children -- our children.

West Richland does a remarkable job in lots of areas. It's a little community with a lot of patriotic pride. Last week the community presented its annual Veterans Day parade.
Far bigger cities can't even muster enough enthusiasm to hold a Veterans Day parade, and yet West Richland can come up with 100 entries.
And it's not just the parade that makes West Richland special, although the parade is wonderful.
