Kennewick man dies after being hit by bus on I-5 near Bellingham

By Paula Horton, Herald staff writer

A 25-year-old man from Kennewick was killed Sunday after being hit by a tour bus on Interstate 5 just south of Bellingham.

The collision happened as the bus was heading south on the freeway at 1:40 p.m., said The Bellingham Herald. There were no passengers on the bus.

Travis A. Cole was standing on the right shoulder of the road and stepped out in front of the bus, said the Washington State Patrol.

After the collision, the bus drove off of the road into a ditch but did not roll over. The driver, Thomas E. Jessen, 51, of Sea-Tac, was not hurt.
