WALLA WALLA -- The Liberty Christian boys secured their fifth consecutive state berth Monday night, defeating Walla Walla Valley 65-56 in the semifinals of the Southeast 2B district tournament at Whitman College.
Brian Corrigan scored seven points in the decisive third quarter, when LC (20-2) outscored WWVA 20-10 to erase a 30-26 halftime deficit.
"I told the kids they'd come out hot," Patriots coach Terry Watson said of the Warriors (12-8). "They just needed to settle down, and WWVA would start missing, and they did."
Brett Dustin scored a game-high 19 points for LC, which will play Waitsburg-Prescott in Saturday's championship game.
The time for the title game won't be known until after Wednesday's loser-out game between WWVA and DeSales. A WWVA win would push the title game into the afternoon to accomodate the Seventh-Day Adventist school's requirement not to play until after sunset Saturday.
