WALLA WALLA -- Walla Walla County is seeking applicants to fill up to eight open positions on the combined Human Services Advisory Board, which assists the Department of Human Services in determining needs and setting priorities for services.
Board members help DHS evaluate and monitor mental health, chemical dependency and developmental disabilities services and how they are administered. Applicants should have some background, personal experience or knowledge of these issues.
Time commitments to the board include one afternoon board meeting per month (usually the third Tuesday of the month). Applicants must be residents of Walla Walla County and have no personal financial interest in county-funded programs or other potential conflicts of interest.
Efforts will be made to seat mental health consumers, developmentally disabled consumers and chemically dependent consumers in recovery on the board.

WALLA WALLA -- Because of budgetary constraints, Walla Walla County has a new schedule of furlough days for 2011.
Monday is one and this will affect the following county offices: assessor, auditor, commissioners, facilities maintenance, human services, personnel/risk management, public health, public records officer, treasurer and the Washington State University Extension.
The offices remaining open on furlough days cannot transact non-related business or take messages or payments for any other office or department that is closed because of furloughs imposed.

KENNEWICK -- The United Way of Benton and Franklin Counties is having an informational meeting for those interested in proposing ideas for innovative and evidence-based programs that address local health and human service issues in the bi-county area.
The board of directors has identified education, health, safety and self-sufficiency as priorities for the July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2014, funding cycle.
The meeting will be from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday at United Way, 401 N. Young St., Kennewick. Reservations can be made by calling 783-4012.
