Apple foundation offers college scholarships
Several 2010 college scholarships are available through the Washington Apple Education Foundation, which is the charity of the state's tree fruit industry.
Students can apply for the scholarships by filling out a universal application available at waef.org . The deadline to apply is March 1.

KENNEWICK -- Two home-schooled Kennewick siblings on Monday advanced to the regional level of a constitutional speech contest.
Nicholas and Olivia Bayuk won the local contest organized by the American Legion.
They now will move on to the regional contest held Jan. 21 at Big Bend Community College in Moses Lake to advance to the state competition.

PASCO -- The federal government is giving out money for college, but you need to apply soon to have a decent chance at it.
In the next two weeks, communities across the state are helping students apply for financial aid by filling out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
CBC is the host of College Goal Sunday today at noon in the Thornton Center, 2600 N. 20th Ave., Pasco.

Financial aid workshop for high school counselors today
A workshop in Pasco today will train high school counselors about how to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid with their students. It also will provide updates on scholarships available in Washington.
The FAFSA is the first step toward getting any kind of financial aid for college.
The workshop is from 2 to 5 p.m. at the ESD 123 Professional Development Center at 3918 W. Court St.
