HERMISTON -- A ground breaking ceremony for the new West Park Elementary School in Hermiston is planned for 2 p.m. Monday.
The school first opened in 1950 and is being replaced thanks to a $69.9 million bond approved by voters in 2008. The bond also is paying to replace some other district schools.

John A. Bindley was arrested by Hermiston police around 9 p.m. Thursday, said Acting Police Chief Jason Edmiston.
Hermiston police had help investigating the allegations from the Department of Human Services and the Umatilla County District Attorney's Office.

HERMISTON -- A Family Health & Fitness Day is set from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Hermiston High School, 600 S. First St.
The free event includes "Tour de Hermiston," a 1 1/2-mile family bike ride with rewards at each checkpoint, a bike rodeo and helmet fitting, vendors and activities, a teddy bear clinic (bring a bear or get a new one) and a variety of screenings including hearing, vision, dental, foot, skin, cholesterol, blood pressure, cardiac risk, colorectal cancer, respiratory and stroke.

Bill McKay will be the guest pianist with the Inland Northwest Orchestra concert, which is at 4 p.m. Oct. 30 in the auditorium at Hanford High School.
The concert also will be performed at 7 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Christian Center, 1825 W. Highland Ave., Hermiston.
There is no admission to either concert.

Test drive a new Ford and help raise money for Prosser High or Hermiston High extracurricular activities.
From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, Tom Denchel Ford Country of Prosser will donate $20 to Prosser High for each person who test-drives a new Ford.
A test-drive runs seven to 10 minutes. Participants must be 18 years or older and have a valid driver's license. There is a limit of one test-drive per household. The event will take place at Prosser High School, 1203 Prosser Ave.
