PROSSER -- Kirsten Alter is the new Miss Prosser.
Alter beat out four other contestants this week for the 2010 Miss Prosser crown.
Princesses are Esmy Jimenez and Whitney Milne, while ambassadors are Jori Sherrill and Tanner White.
The teenage girls and their parents will begin designing and building the city's parade float.

Hopefest to raise funds for girl with disease
Hopefest is from 3 to 6 p.m. Sept. 25 on the practice field at Prosser High School, 1023 Prosser Ave.
The fundraiser for 9-year-old Sofia Martinez includes performances by local bands Status Saved, Silver Dollar Circus and Striking Back. Soloist Adrienne Bousquet, a former Miss Tri-Cities, also will perform.
Sofia, the daughter of Rene Satterfield Martinez, suffers from Batten disease, a rare and incurable genetic disorder that steals eyesight, eventually causing seizures, and will rob her of muscle control and brain function.

PROSSER -- Maria Isabel Alvarez, 85, died Feb. 6 at home in Prosser.
She was born in Michoacan, Mexico, and lived in Prosser for over 30 years. She was a homemaker.

Benton residents asked to check for break-ins
Benton residents asked to check for break-ins
Residents in the west end of Benton County, including Benton City and Prosser, are being asked to check whether their cars, sheds or storage units were broken into Thursday night or early Friday morning.
Benton County sheriff's officials say they have recovered stolen property from suspects arrested early Friday, said Deputy Joe Lusignan.
The suspects allegedly were involved in a series of thefts, burglaries and vehicle prowls in Benton City, Prosser and possibly the Sunnyside and Grandview areas, he said.
