KENNEWICK -- A 10-year-old Kennewick boy died of injuries he apparently suffered after crashing his bicycle Wednesday, officials said.
Joel Zachary Diaz died Thursday, according to his death notice.
An autopsy was completed Thursday afternoon but results were not immediately available.
Kennewick police Sgt. Kirk Isakson said Joel apparently wrecked his bike Wednesday afternoon and was taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland by Kennewick Fire Department paramedics.
Officers responded to assist medics but full details about what happened weren't known.
Joel reportedly was hurt when he hit the handle bars or center post of his bike, Isakson said.
He was taken to the emergency room, then cleared to go home, Isakson said.
The boy apparently began having some medical problems later in the evening and was taken to Kennewick General Hospital, where he died.
Joel, the son of Peter and Julie Diaz, was homeschooled.
