WALLA WALLA -- The city of Walla Walla Fire Department will receive a $145,520 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for personal protective equipment.
The grant money will be used to purchase 28 self-contained breathing apparatus. Ninety percent of the money, or $130,968, will come from FEMA, the remaining 10 percent, or $14,552, will be the responsibility of the fire department.
The purchase of the new apparatus will allow the department to replace older units nearing the end of their life cycle and help keep the firefighters safer through improved technology and increased safety standards.
