CALGARY, Alberta -- The Tri-City Americans limped out of their three-game swing against the Central Division with a 1-2 record after a 3-0 loss to the Calgary Hitmen on Sunday in front of 11,472 fans at the Pengrowth Saddledome.
Calgary, which has won four of its last five games, capitalized on two power-play opportunities to send Tri-City (37-13-0-2, 76 points) to its third loss in four games.
The Americans continue their four-game stretch on the road Saturday at B.C. Division-leader Vancouver (31-19-1-2, 65). Tri-City is 3-0 against the Giants this season.
The Americans, coming off a 7-0 thumping of Edmonton on Friday night, were handcuffed by Martin Jones, who stopped all 35 shots he faced in posting his fourth shutout. It was just the second time the Ams have been shut out this season and first since Oct. 3.
Alex Pechurskiy made 29 saves and lost for the third time in 11 decisions.
After a scoreless first quarter, Calgary (33-16-1-1, 68 points) took a 1-0 lead at the 5:36 mark of the second period on a power-play goal by Ian Schultz.
The lead grew to 2-0 early in the third period on another power-play goal, this time coming off the stick of former American Joel Broda.

Dominik Uher had two goals and one assist to lead Spokane to a 5-3 win over the Americans before a crowd of 9,667 at Spokane Arena.
Tri-City (33-9-0-0, 66 points), which has lost two of its last three games, saw its lead in the Western Hockey League trimmed to one point with the loss.

Colin Smith scored twice and Cole Cheveldave had 30 saves to lead the Kamloops Blazers to a 3-2 victory Wednesday over the Tri-City Americans at Interior Savings Centre.
The loss was the first for the Americans (32-8-0-0) since a 6-2 setback at Kelowna on Nov. 30. They had won a franchise-record 13 consecutive games.

Malte Strmwall scored the game-winner in the shootout as the Tri-City Americans handed the Spokane Chiefs their first loss of the preseason, 3-2 on Saturday night in the final game of the Red Lion Hotels Tournament at Toyota Center.
"I think to shoot it high glove side, but it wasn't there," Strmwall said. "I went 5-hole. This game was a lot of fun."

KENNEWICK -- In a wild west shootout for the top spot in the U.S. Division, the Tri-City Americans held off the Portland Winterhawks on Wednesday night to remain in the driver's seat.
Mitch Topping scored the game winner with 2:19 left in regulation, and Adam Hughesman had a five-point night with a goal and four assists in a 7-6 victory before an announced crowd of 4,229 at Toyota Center.
"A wild night, without a doubt," said Tri-City coach Jim Hiller, whose team is 4-0 against Portland this season. "Not the finest display of tactical hockey, but (Portland) is an excellent team."
