A scene late in the movie has Amy Adams character standing at the edge of a cliff.
I thought for sure she was going to jump. Had it not been so late in the movie, I would have gladly traded her places anything to be done with this one.

Leap Year is the movie, and its about that special every four year event. Using the date as a film title suggests the production will at least have a little energy. Leap as a verb has a joyous connotation. Jumping, vaulting, springing and even hopping come to mind. Big smiles. Happy people. Fun.
Its a comedy about an unlucky trip through Ireland. Comedy makes me think of a smiling Snoopy tripping lightly through fields of green clover or of mischievous leprechauns puffing on a pipe and playing marvelous tricks as you banter with them while trying to grab their pot of gold.
There is more fun in my inane introduction than you will have in the two hours youre stuck in this joyless, annoying mess.
Amy Adams is a woman pushing 30 and in a frustrating relationship.
Her cardiologist/boyfriend has no heart. He wont pop the question. Irish tradition says on Leap Day, Feb. 29, women can ask men to marry them. Thinking its a great idea, she follows when he heads to Ireland for a conference. Like it really needs to be Feb. 29 for her to give the guy a hard nudge?
Anyway, a winter storm keeps her from getting to Belfast and puts Adams in the care of a pub owner played by Matthew Goode(Watchmen). He agrees to take her to Belfast.
They continue to get delayed and encounter one disaster after another. None as stupendous as this movie but close. Love blossoms. Since youve seen this movie 10,000 times you can write the rest yourself. You may want to do it and save some bucks. Even my wife the films target audience and who tolerates this fluff better than me, fell asleep.
I feel deeply sorry for Adams and Goode. They are too good at their craft to get stuck in a project this lame.

Adam Sandler is still doing them and usually within five minutes of the beginning of a movie. Hard to believe isn’t it? And he doesn’t stick with just one. Sandler’s form of “humor” can be found twice, thrice, sometimes even four times in a film.
Prepubescent boys find a toot a hoot. By the time you’re 15, fart jokes are pretty much passe. Maybe it’s Sandler’s signature. Modern comedians tend not to use them. Billy Crystal is one of the few. He’s simply marvelous. A lot of old-time comedians did. Jimmy Durante said goodnight to Mrs. Calabash. Bill Cosby’s signature is, “Hey, hey, hey.” George Burns told his lovely bride to, “Say goodnight, Gracie.”

The Hedgehog is a subtitled French film from 2009 that finally got released in the U.S. last year, and thanks to the Battelle Film Club , it will be seen in the Tri-Cities.
The story centers around Paloma, an 11-year old girl whose interests are philosophy and art.
No one in her family can relate. Her parents barely speak to each other much less to Paloma. The disconnected mom talks to plants, and the psychiatrist but can’t talk to her daughter. Dad is nowhere to be found.

When you land a Meryl Streep to play a role in whatever you toss together, then the buzz gets an extra kick. Critics in Los Angeles and New York screen it first. They rave about her acting, and the extra kick gets an extra kick.
