Promises, promises

I got a good chuckle from D. Nelson's statement "The measure of a person is not in the promises made, but in the promises kept," in "Palin criticism valid" (Letters, Dec. 21). Nelson needs to remember that Palin is just another politician who makes promises and breaks them. So what's new? At least her broken promises didn't adversely impact the whole country.

I wonder how Nelson feels about our president and his promises. He promised not to raise taxes; end income taxes for seniors making less than $50K per year; tougher rules on lobbyists in his administration; no earmarks; transparency in government; bills would be put online for five days of public comment before signing bills; and partisanship would be a thing of the past.

As for the oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States, when have any of the entrenched Washington politicians paid attention to the Constitution?

The thing about Palin that this independent conservative enjoys is that she drives the liberals crazy. If she can bring them to a frenzy, she must have something going for her that makes her a threat to them.
