By the Herald staffDecember 31, 2009

There's plenty happening around the Tri-Cities and region tonight to keep you from ringing in the new year at home on your couch.

The biggest family-oriented event is New Year's Tri-Cities, starting at 5:30 p.m. at Columbia Basin College in Pasco.

The headline act is the pop-country act Gloriana. The group was recently named breakthrough artist of the year award at MTV's 2009 American Music Awards. They'll perform at 7:30 and 10:45 p.m.

Comedian Brad Upton, who grew up in the Tri-Cities, also returns for a family-friendly comedy show at 6:45 and 8:15 p.m.

Other performers include an Irish fiddle and dance group, a Johnny Cash tribute show, a hypnotist comedian, cloggers, rock and salsa bands, belly dancers, children's entertainers and many other musical groups.

Events are held around the campus from the lecture halls and CBC theater to the library and gym. Buy an admission button for $10 for ages 13 and older and $3 for ages 6-12. Ages 5 and younger are free. Tickets are also available online at newyearstricities.com or at the door.
