Identity sought for man killed in Mesa roll-over

By the Herald staff

MESA-- Authorities are trying to identify a driver who died in a roll-over crash near Mesa.

The collision occurred at 11:40 p.m. Saturday on Hendricks Road, about 7 miles north of Mesa, the Washington State Patrol said.

A Franklin County sheriff's deputy tried to pull over the 2003 Chevy Tahoe on Highway 17, but the driver didn't stop and instead turned west onto Hendricks Road, troopers said.

The driver lost control of the SUV, went off the road, rolled over and ended up in the eastbound lane of Hendricks, troopers said. It was not known if the man was wearing a seat belt.

The driver is an unidentified Hispanic man in his mid-20s. He's about 5-foot-7, 240 pounds and has tattoos of praying hands in the middle of his chest, "Uriel" on his upper left chest, "Amelia" on his upper right chest and three dots on his left hand.

Anyone with information about the man's identity is asked to call the state patrol at 509-575-2320.

The cause of the crash still is under investigation. Alcohol is suspected of being involved.
