CWU, Kamiakin product Reilly signed by Rams

By the Yakima Herald-Republic

Former Central Washington great Mike Reilly is no longer on Green Bay's practice squad, but he is on St. Louis' roster.

Reilly played at Kamiakin until his senior year, when his family moved to Montana.

The rookie quarterback was signed away from the Packers by the Rams on Wednesday, and will serve as the No. 3 quarterback behind starter Kyle Boller and backup Keith Null.

Marc Bulger, who normally starts for the 1-11 Rams, has missed two games and remains on crutches after sustaining shin and groin injuries. He will reportedly undergo an MRI exam Friday.

"The way I'm playing it is I'm expecting to be here next season," Reilly said in a story posted on the Rams website. "I'm going to take it as such and prepare for the next four weeks, but also for next season, training camps, minicamps, all of that and just be prepared for anything.

"It doesn't matter if you're third, fourth string, it doesn't matter, you have to prepare like you're the starter, and that's the role I'm going to take."

Following a four-year career at Central during which he virtually rewrote the Wildcats' passing record book, Reilly was a free-agent signee by the Pittsburgh Steelers last April.

He was among the last cuts by the Steelers and returned to his home in Kennewick where he worked as an engineer before joining the Packers' practice squad on Nov. 19.

To make room for Reilly on their roster, the Rams waived linebacker Dominic Douglas.

"The hardest part is to get here," Reilly said, "to get into the locker room and get on a team. After that, I don't think it really matters where you came from as long as you play well."
