Health officials warn of H1N1 flu shot scam

By the Herald staff

Health officials are warning those eager to get the H1N1 flu vaccine about a scam claiming to solicit personal information in exchange for the swine flu shot.

Some people are getting an e-mail claiming to be from the federal Centers for Disease Control and telling consumers that every person over age 18 has to register for a personal vaccination profile on the CDC website.

The e-mail claims the profile is used for registering vaccinated and non-vaccinated people and provides a link that directs consumers to a fake website where personal information is collected.

The CDC says it has not created such a system.

To avoid being scammed by fake e-mails don't follow unsolicited links and don't open or respond to unsolicited e-mail messages, use caution when visiting unknown websites and be careful about entering personal information online.
