By Annette Cary, Herald staff writer

RICHLAND -- Dade Moeller & Associates, a Richland-based radiation protection company, has bought Environmental Quality Management Inc., with offices in Richland and Knoxville, Tenn.

Both companies support environmental cleanup projects at the Hanford nuclear reservation and elsewhere.

The terms of the purchase were not announced.

The acquisition will extend Dade Moeller's offerings in environmental chemistry and regulatory support. It also will give the firm new capabilities in data and laboratory assessments related to International Organization for Standardization and National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Conference requirements.

"We feel confident that our current clients will be excited with our new service offerings and that new clients will be impressed with our enhanced ability to provide a one-stop shopping solution to their radiation protection needs," said Matthew Moeller, president of Dade Moeller & Associates, in a statement.

Dade Moeller, a consulting firm with 200 employees, more than half of them professionals, will add four EQM personnel to its staff.

"We look forward to adding our expertise in the areas of environmental remediation, regulatory support and quality systems support," said Mitzi Miller, president and owner of EQM. She has been named vice president for environmental programs at Dade Moeller.

Dade Moeller specializes in radiological and nuclear safety, public and environmental health protection, occupational safety and health, and radiation and safety training. It believes it employs more certified health physicists -- radiation safety scientists -- than any other private company in the United States and serves more than 100 clients in the United States and internationally.

EQM, which was incorporated in 1992, provides regulatory and data quality support to environmental remediation projects. It specializes in data assessment, laboratory auditing and laboratory quality systems.

At Hanford it has done quality management work for Fluor Hanford, including for the Plutonium Finishing Plant cleanup.
