ELTOPIA -- Gary Middleton, owner of Middleton Organic Orchards and Middleton Organic Specialty Foods in Eltopia, was recently elected to a two-year term on the Board of Directors of the Tilth Producers of Washington.
Tilth Producers is a 600-member statewide nonprofit organization which promotes ecologically sound, economically viable and socially equitable farming practices that improve the health of our communities and natural environment.
More than half of the membership is organic and sustainable growers, followed by agriculture professionals, farm suppliers, resource organizations and organic industry representatives.

YAKIMA -- Washington's organic apple growers have good marketing opportunities in Asian markets where increasingly sophisticated consumers want organic produce from America, a marketer of organic apples and pears said.
Luis Acua, president of CF Fresh of Sedro-Woolley, told the Tilth Producers of Washington annual conference in Yakima that organic growers can command a 15 percent price premium for their products. While exports of organic apples remain modest, Acua said, potential for increased sales is good.
"The demand is there," he said.

ELTOPIA -- Lovella "Ditto" Kniveton, 93, of Eltopia, died Jan. 12 in Eltopia.
She was born in Stockton, Calif., and lived in Eltopia for 54 years.
She was a retired assistant postmaster and homemaker.
