Sirens will sound in southern Benton County at noon Tuesday as part of the monthly test of tone alert radios and warning sirens in case of an emergency at the Umatilla Chemical Depot.
Twenty sirens will be activated, followed by a message broadcast in English and Spanish. Households with emergency tone alert radios also will hear a tone and message.

It's conducted by Benton County Emergency Management as part of the Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program (CSEPP) for the Umatilla Chemical Depot near Hermiston.
In the first part of the two-part test, the 20 CSEPP sirens in southern Benton County near the Columbia River will be activated.

Sirens, tone alert radios and highway reader boards would have been tested today. But the tests will be skipped because the warning systems were used May 19 in the annual Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program drill.

Residents in southern Benton, Umatilla and Morrow counties will hear sirens and their tone alert radios will sound around 9 a.m. Message boards on interstates 82 and 84 also will be used.
Participants include the American Red Cross, Benton County Emergency Services, Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, Hermiston High School, Incident Command Post in Hermiston, Joint Information Center in Pendleton, Morrow County Emergency Management, Oregon Emergency Management, Oregon Health, Umatilla County Emergency Management, Army Umatilla Chemical Depot, and Washington Emergency Management Division.
