CBC volleyball stays alive at NWAACC tourney

HERALD STAFF

GRESHAM, Ore. -- Amber Durand had 26 kills for the day for Columbia Basin, Brittany Weiand weighed in with 59 assists and the Hawks bounced back from a first-round loss to host Mount Hood with a 25-18, 25-18 victory over Pierce on Thursday in the consolation bracket of the NWAACC volleyball tournament.

The Hawks lost to the South champion Saints 24-26, 25-14, 27-25, 25-17 to draw the Raiders.

"We had them 24-21," CBC coach John Patrick said of the third set vs. Mount Hood. "And four unforced errors on our side gave them the lead. That was the heartbreaker right there."

The Hawks will play at 3 p.m. today against the loser of a 10 a.m. matchup between Wenatchee Valley and Tacoma.

Patrick said he hopes WVCC pulls out a win -- if only to give the Hawks a chance to avenge two losses to the Knights.

"We would like to send Wenatchee packing," he said.
