Cynthia McCready thinks there's no reason being dead should get in the way of a great romance.
It's the Edward/Bella romance at the core of Stephenie Meyer's popular four-book Twilight saga that drew McCready to re-read the books six times. And it's seeing the love story translated to the screen that she said would carry her to the premiere of New Moon on Nov. 20.
But first, McCready and more than 150 others planned to unleash their inner "fanpires" at a New Moon release party benefiting the Edith Bishel Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired.
The party is from 6 to 11 p.m. Nov. 20 at the Red Lion Hanford House in Richland and will feature character lookalikes performing scenes from the New Moon book; vendors selling jewelry, candles and other Twilight-themed merchandise; dancing and entertainment.
General admission at the door costs $10 for adults or $8 for middle and high school students with identification.
Those who bought advance VIP tickets get an Italian buffet dinner, slice of Bella's birthday cake and a glass of wine for those over 21.
McCready said as the Bishel Center's event and fundraising coordinator, she was looking for an innovative fundraiser that broke out of the usual dinner or golf tournament mode.
She's already planning a second Twilight event June 30 in conjunction with the premiere of Eclipse, the third film in the series.
A midnight showing of New Moon was to follow the party at Regal Cinemas in Kennewick.
New Moon is the film adaptation of the second book about teen vampires and werewolves prowling around Forks, and features Kristin Stewart as Bella Swan, the high school girl in love with a vampire; Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen, her undead paramour; and Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black, Bella's best friend who turns out to be a vampire-chomping werewolf.
Tickets for the midnight premiere were sold out days before the showing, local movie theater managers said.

Bella Luna Salon is holding a Ladies Night fundraiser from 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 28.
Bella Luna will provide complimentary finger foods and drinks and a variety of special deals will be available, including free product samples. The salon also is offering a hair styling or make-up application for $25.
There also will be a silent auction. One of the items up for auction is a "Holiday Glitz & Glam" night for six.
