PULLMAN -- Senior Kevin Lopina will start at quarterback for Washington State on Saturday against 20th-ranked Oregon State, said Cougars coach Paul Wulff.
Last week, Lopina played most of the game in a 43-7 loss to UCLA after starter Marshall Lobberstael threw interceptions on WSU's first three possessions.
The product of prep power De La Salle in Pleasanton, Calif. had not played since starting in the first two games.
NOTES: WSU center Kenny Alfred was selected to play in the 85th annual East-West Shrine Game. The All-Star game for college seniors will be played Jan. 23 in Orlando, Fla. ... Junior defensive tackle Toby Turpin was suspended for WSU's final two games for an undisclosed violation of team rules. ... Oregon State has won five of its last six games. ... The Beavers are bowl eligible for the fourth straight season, a school record. Coach Mike Riley is 5-0 in bowl games. ... Oregon State leads the league in rushing defense, allowing just 102.4 yards a game.

Jeff Tuel injured his left shoulder in the first half of last weekend's loss to Oregon State in Seattle. Coach Paul Wulff said Tuesday that the junior would not play against Oregon.
"He'll be out this week," Wulff said of Tuel, who missed most of the season because of a fractured collarbone. "We'll evaluate his health at the beginning of next week."
