KENNEWICK The Tri-City Americans traded the rights to 18-year-old defenseman Lane Werbowski to the Edmonton Oil Kings on Wednesday in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2011 WHL bantam draft.
The move reduces Tri-City's roster to 24 players (15 forwards, seven defensemen and two goalies).
Werbowski appeared in 18 games this season, collecting two assists, seven penalty minutes and a plus-5 rating.
Selected in the sixth round (113th overall) in the 2006 bantam draft by Tri-City, the native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, appeared in 118 games with the Americans, totaling four goals, 23 points, 47 penalty minutes and a plus-15 rating.
"(Lane) was in and out of the lineup this season," said Tri-City general manager Bob Tory in a news release. "This move allows for him to compete for more ice time in Edmonton."
Also on Wednesday, the Americans (17-5-0-0) dropped from third to sixth in the Canadian Hockey League poll after going 1-2 on a Central Division road trip.
The Windsor Spitfires are the top-ranked team, while the Saskatoon Blades are third and the Calgary Hitmen seventh.

MT. VERNON -- Josephine Joan Nielsen, 94, of Mt. Vernon, died Oct. 22 in Mt. Vernon.
She was born in American Falls, Idaho, and lived in the Tri-Cities from 1944 until moving to Mt. Vernon in September.
She was the retired owner and operator of the Tri-Cities Bible Book Store in Kennewick from 1960 until 1975.
