Kennewick junior Karissa Shiflet became the first bowler in Lions history to win a state championship, edging Brittany Yoke of Mark Morris for the 3A girls individual title by four pins Friday at Narrows Plaza Bowl in University Place.
Shiflet finished with 1,209 total pins during the six-game series. Yoke finished with 1,205 pins. Mark Morris leads the team race heading into today's Baker round with 5,488 pins, while the Lions sit in fifth with 5,026.

KENNEWICK -- Southridge's Brooke Benecke scored in the 39th minute and the Suns eclipsed Kamiakin 4-2 in the shootout to earn a 2-1 victory in a CBBN 3A game at Kamiakin.
"Both teams played well," Kamiakin coach Chris Erikson said. "It was a very even game."
The victory gives the Suns an undefeated run through the CBBN and a bye in the district tournament. Kamiakin, which finished second in league, will host the winner of Eastmont-Hanford on Saturday.

Kennewick Community Education has scheduled a two-part "killer sudoku" class from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and Nov. 2 at Southridge High School.
Killer sudoku challenges the gamer to a no-number version of the popular word game. This two-day class introduces gamers to puzzles that range from easy to mind-blowing, the basics of solving a puzzle, and provides gamers with tips on how to advance their skills.

Week 3 of the prep football season brings with it the first round of league games for the CBBN schools.
Southridge and Sunnyside got a jump on the rest of the 3A division with a Thursday night game at Lampson Stadium. The Suns beat the Grizzlies 20-19.
Tonight, there are two 3A games in the Tri-Cities. Defending league champion and state runner-up Kamiakin visits Pasco at Edgar Brown. Kennewick will get its first taste of Washington football this season, taking on Eastmont at Lampson after opening with two victories over Pendleton and Hermiston.
